Alliance celebrates 25th, elects new officers
The West Tennessee Physicians’ Alliance, celebrated its 25th anniversary with a dinner for its membership on October 15, 2009.

The Alliance was founded in 1984 to create an umbrella organization for independent, small clinics in Jackson so they could effectively compete against larger clinics and facilitate managed care contracts. “The independent physicians have made a big impact in quality health care for the families of West Tennessee,” said Tom Reed, the organization’s founder and executive director. “The Alliance has helped them do that.”

The group started with about 25 physicians practicing in about five different clinics; today, it has more than 100 physicians who practice in 42 clinics.

During its short business meeting, the Alliance doctors also elected officers.
• Dr. Elizabeth Londino, a family practice physician at Northside Medical Clinic, will replace Dr. Paul Gray as president.
• Dr. Paul Gray, an obstetrician/gynecologist at the Woman’s Clinic, will remain on the board.
• Dr. Peter Lawrence, a urologist with Jackson Urology Associates, stays on the board.
• Dr. Blake Todd, a pediatrician at the Children’s Clinic, also remains on the board.
New members on the board are …
• Dr. John Woods, an internal medicine physician at the Woods Clinic.
• Dr. David Yakin, an orthopedic surgeon at Sports, Orthopedics and Spine.
They replace Dr. Mike Cobb, an orthopedic surgeon at West Tennessee Bone & Joint Clinic, and Dr. Mike Ibach, a gastroenterologist at Medical Specialty Clinic, who are rotating off the board.
